Update for 27 October...
Just a quick update today that's taken me forever to do for some reason...
Still Green is a coming of age film about a group of friends that celebrate finishing high school by going to the beach and just relaxing in each other's company. There is a sense that they will never be together again. Then a tragic accident causes all of them to come to terms with their future more quickly than they realised. A very reflective film with some interesting observations, but the film really goes off the rails after the tragic accident with a truly bizarre 'can only happen in the movies' scenario. What a shame...
If you haven't already, check out the extensive Satisfaction series 1 update at Johnny Moronic Television. It took 9 months to complete. Most of which was pussyfooting about trying to get myself bother to do it :) Well, it's done, now onto series 2. Oh and series 3 starts in December with 2 new prostitutes.

Update for 21 October...
Today is all about Emma Roberts.
Lymelife is a film set in the 70s about a young boy trying to come to terms with life with a unstable mother and philanderous father, an AWOL brother who can't stand his father, the girl across the way (Emma Roberts), who he has a massive crush on and the ongoing threat of Lyme disease. Reminds me a lot of the far superior The Ice Storm and this film is nowhere near as interesting. These ensemble dramas are shitting me more and more.
Wild Child is your typical poor little rich girl sent to rough it, this time at an English all-girls school that her mother went too. Sure, it's not made for me, but it's not all that bad, which was a surprise...

Quick update for 19 October...
Alright, I'm a whore I admit it. Of course everyone is going to cap this, so I'd thought I'd get in early enough.
I Love You, Beth Cooper takes place on the day and night of graduation, where the nerdy valedictorian blurts out during his speech that he loves the head cheerleader Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere), who barely knows who he is. And he also enrages a whole heap of other people, including Beth Cooper's coked up meathead boyfriend who wants to kill him. The nerd and his friend have a party, and Beth and a couple of her friends go to his house for a laugh, but things turn out very differently as the nerd, his closeted gay friend, Beth and her friends discover a few things about themselves during a night of wacky adventures. Meh, these type of films have been done to death and this one at least attempts to add a bit of depth to it's over the top wackiness. But, I didn't find it funny at all. I must be missing something...

Update for 18 October...
Some quick series today.
Storage is a great little Australian thriller set for the most part in a storage facility. After a young man's father is killed during a robbery gone wrong, he is sent to live with his uncle and work with him at his storage facility. On his first day, he spies a storage cupboard owner crying, smelling some clothes and in possession of a gun. He investigates, much to chagrin of his uncle, who tells him to leave them alone. But, he can't and after being caught breaking into the the storage cupboard, he and his uncle look inside the barrel and finds a blood-soaked shirt. Now, they decide to confront the owner. But, it isn't going to be as simple as that. Definitely worth a look if you can find it.
The Crew is the type of film that the British do best or they just do a lot of. The head of a group of robbers is going through a crisis. After botching a robbery of a truck, his team is fracturing and his brother wants it all, but is on a fast track to being dead. One of his team is missing presumed dead. His wife doesn't love him any more and she is getting closer to the (female) neighbour. And his boss is losing faith in him. So, what's a man to do when it all goes to shit? Get back what's his. Well, sort of... Worth a look, but has some moments which are just there for something a little extra.
A couple of movies today featuring some Aussie babes.
The Hills Run Red is a film about a man who is desperate to see an explicit horror film that was banned in the early 80s. He tracks down the director's daughter, who is a stripper and a junkie and after getting her clean, she takes the man, his girlfriend and their friend, who is boning his girlfriend, to her father's house to film for a documentary about the film. But of course, it turns out things are not what they seem and if I say any more, I'll give away the entire film. The film has an interesting idea, but it's not the full-on horror film it paints itself to be. That's not to say there isn't some graphic violence on show, but the film is more about finding out about the lost film and some of the horrific circumstances that apparently followed. I liked the film, but don't go expecting a traditional slasher film. And Sophie Monk is constantly naked throughout the film if you don't like the film. And Janet Montgomery, who had a couple of great nude scenes in the second series of Skins, also gets naked.
I've talked about Prey before on the blog before, so all I say is it's the same cut I saw in the cinema. We were promised an unrated cut or something and accordng to the producer, there will be one, maybe for pay-per-view in America. And it will feature the lesbian shower scene...
Well, I call 'Shenanigans'. I say that there's no such scene, otherwise why ain't it on the quite paltry DVD. Hell, there is a shower scene with lesbian overtones (see below), and reckon that's what they are talking about, and they are juicing it up to be more than it is.
And if there really is such a scene, I say pony up or piss off. Shenanigans. SHENANIGANS...

Update for 11 October...
A wide mixture today.
Fired Up! is a cheerleader romantic comedy about 2 teen boys (who are clearly too old for the part, one's 32!) who ditch football camp to go to cheerleader camp to pick up as many girls as possible. I must have watched a different film to the critics because I quite enjoyed it, found it to be much funnier than expected and a film that is more sly than it is been made out to be. And any film that has two digs at the criminally bland Nickelback gets higher marks from me. And if you look closer, this film is teeming with girls you've seen elsewhere in incredibly small roles...
Stiletto is an ultraviolent thriller about a a spurned female hit-lady who is singlehandedly getting revenge on the male gangsters that raped and killed her friend. After stabbing the boss of a crime gang who was her mentor, he is left to protect his interests as the criminal empire seems to be imploding thanks to this woman and maybe some other reasons. OK film, but is obsessed with the violence.
Tormented is another bullied teen who dies and comes back to life to kill everyone involved teen horror film, but this time it is set in a British school. Starring a couple of former members of the TV show Skins, this film doesn't add anything to the quite boring horror sub-genre. There's even some laughable moments, like the scene in the male shower and the way to kill the 'spirit' is almost embarrassing. The ending is not much better either. The best I can say is at least it's not as bad as the similar Cut, but that's not saying much at all.

Quick update for 8 October...
A quick addition today featuring one of my faves, Emma Lung.
Crush is a typical teen obsessive love thriller, this has a supernatural twist as I predicted from the trailer. The acting is straight out of Home and Away, although Emma gets to ham it up a bit. The film could have been better with a more experienced director (and there's two in this film), but personally I'd rather that the film was 'so bad it's good'. Still surprised it didn't get a proper cinema release considering the unwatchable shit that passes for Australian film. At least it's short run was marketed extremely well.
And more Emma Lung is never a bad thing. Particularly a frequently bikini clad Emma...

Update for 3 October...
I haven't been on the movie side of the site much over the last month, but there's been so much off the telly recently that I haven't had the time. Packed To The Rafters has been unusually sexed up recently (and controversially so. How dare people in a so-called 'family' show think of PG sex...). But it's back to movies for the next little bit.
No matter what you think of it, Transformers: Rise of the Fallen hasn't moved on much from the first film. It's pretty much the same film as the first one with more explosions and more Transformers action. And Michael Bay has a very boring look on sexuality which doesn't seemed to have changed since Bad Boys. He likes his girls one way and one way only. If the girls in this film could be anymore blow-up doll, they'd weeze when they breathe. And in this film, he does it to the point where it's just laughable.
Walled In has a very interesting idea that it doesn't quite know what to do with. An eccentric architect designs buildings which are impossbile to collapse. But, for his masterpiece, he has a completely insane idea of using humans to help the structure of the building. Years later, an engineering graduate (Mischa Barton) is given her first job to blow up this masterpiece building. It is inhabited by a woman whose husband was placed inside the building by the insane architect, her son, a hobbled cleaner and an old lady who are been evicted. But the son takes a shine to the graduate as she tries to understand this building. Then the film seems to lose the plot sadly, but there's some great intrigue in what could of happened. Ah well...
Thick as Thieves is a typical heist/con man thriller starring Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman that at no stage rises above the twisty formula. Radha Mitchell plays a pretty lawyer who is inadvertedly involved in the plot. You know what to expect. Whatever.
Table For Three is a comedy about a man looking for a housemate and finds it with a married couple, who get along at first, but after the man finds a girl, the couple becomes incredibly toxic and try to break up the new couple. Has a few laughs and worth a look if you want a laugh.
