Update for 22 November...
Today's all about Blake Lively. As it should be...
Elvis and Anabelle is about two vastly different people who fall in love after they meet when she dies. Elvis, a funeral curator, brings her back to live when he kisses her (um, yeah) and Anabelle comes out a changed person. Sick of the beauty pageant circuit, she runs away to Elvis's house to hide away but finds love in the morose Elvis. They run away after her mother finds her, but after she finds out how she came back to life, it looks as though they won't get together. Oh, of course they will!!! Charming tale about an unlikely love story, well worth a look if you can find it.
The Private Lives of Pippa Lee follows Pippa as she has a crisiss in her life. She finds herself sleepwalking, including driving her car and going down to the local store while asleep. Her much older husband is behaving differently. While this is going on, she recounts her life, including her difficult relationship with her manic mother and how she met her husband. Interesting story about a so-called enigmatic woman, but I can't help but think it's a big hullaballoo about not very much at all.

Redux Friday strikes again...
More old series redone for some reason.
Slowly intertwining the old stuff in between some new stuff (don't worry it's coming). Tempted is a long forgotten erotic thriller (well, semi-erotic) but it was interesting to go back and look at the film. Also, there's 8MM2 aka The Velvet Side of Hell (a much better title) which has nothing to do with the original 8MM, which has one of the most ludicrous endings ever, but at least Lori Heuring got naked after teasing for a long while. And there's a stack of nudity in the film, some of the woman are Eastern European porn stars. And you can get the original collages from 8MM2 here.

Not redux Friday again...
Redux Friday is back by popular demand. Apparently.
I first capped the Australia corporate thriller Risk in July 2002 in the now defunct Eye Candy July. This film has never been released on DVD in this country only VHS, so I had to buy it from overseas for $2 (probably cheaper than you'll ever pay here). Worth a look, mainly because of the quite interesting scam involving paying out all insurance claims at 80% and pocketing the rest. Then everyone gets greedy as they always do. Claudia is looking pretty darn good here and she has a few interesting projects coming up including the long anticipated Daybreakers.
Also, decided to redo the videos from the film London for better quality. You can get the collages from here. Had a look at the cast, it's almost entirely populated by someone you'd now recognise including Jason Statham, Isla Fisher, Sophie Monk, Louis CK, Dane Cook, Paula Patton, Kat Dennings, Juliette Marquis and in the deleted scenes, Leelee Sobieski. I remember the film feeling like I was the only sober person in the middle of a party where everyone else was off their face and talking complete and utter bullshit. Oh, that's not a recommendation by the way...
And to think Jessica Biel actually got naked in a film later on. Who would've thought?

Update for 10 November...
A couple of Australian movies today, one new, the other considered a 'cult classic' in this country.
Dogs in Space was released in 1986 and already had a major following thanks to it's lead, INXS frontman Michael Hutchence, possibly on eof the biggest pop stars of the time and major airtime on the music show of the time, Countdown. And it was going to be big, until the Classification Board was nice enough to award the film a R rating, meaning only people over 18 could see it cinemas, thereby killing any chance of popularity. It has a devoted cult following and I even got 'dragged' to the house where it was filmed by some friends (former friends...) and well, it was no big deal, just looked like any old slum (it's still there in Richmond, Melbourne apparently...)
Anyway, you could probably tell I'm not that enamoured with the film. I can see where it would get it's cult status from but literally nothing happens in the film. Basically, a couple (Michael Hutchence and Saskia Post) live in said house with a cast of revolving characters who party in the house every night, trying to get a punk band up (called Dogs in Space) and when they're not doing that, heroin fills in the time. The film, set in the late 70s when punk had it's day, has some great music, but made me think that I'd rather watch a Nick Cave biopic. Plenty of extras and looking at the cast and hangers-on 20-odd years on is pretty interesting (some looking like they've had better days...), but maybe I'm a little too young for this film...
Disgrace is an Australian film set entirely in South Africa and starring John Malkovich. Confused? Well, Malkovich plays a professor who has an affair with a student, but takes it too far and he loses his job. Instead of facing the music, he goes and lives with his daughter on her hobby farm and accidentally becomes involved in the tenuous hold that post-Apartheid politics has in the area after the place is robbed and his daughter is raped. It turns out that one of the rapists is the brother of the new wife of the co-habitant on the land, but things are never that simple. Good little film that is held together by some excellent performances.
Quick little update today from the film Jennifer's Body.
Jennifer's Body is about the friendship between two teenage female friends living in a small town, one a highly toxic, impossibly beautiful girl Jennifer (Megan Fox) and the other her nerdy best friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried). After escaping a fire at the local bar that kill many of the townsfolk, Jennifer goes off with the band that was playing the bar and comes back to Needy all bloody and spewing some horrendous looking spiky black goo. The next day, she is perfectly fine, much to Needy's perplexment. Also that day, Jennifer seduces then kills a local boy. It seems something really bad happened to Jennifer when she went with the band and now no boy in town is safe.
This film has copped some flak but I disagree to a point. This is no traditional horror film as it was (poorly) marketed as. It is more about the friendship between two teenage girls and all of the problems that go with that. Sure, the Diablo Cody dialogue can grate and even bewilder, but in between is some pretty good stuff - 'You know what this is for? (wielding a boxcutter) It's for cutting boxes', 'Do you buy all your murder weapons at Home Depot? God, you're butch...'. I liked it, which is more than I expected, but hey, I even got through The United States of Tara and only threw up twice...
The sound on the videos is a little tinny, but it's perfectly legible.
