Quick update for 24 November...

Just a quick update today, technically it could be considered the beginning of the Spanish update.

Timecrimes is a superb Spanish time travel thriller about a man who spies a naked woman (Barbara Goenaga) in the woods behind his place and investigates. When he gets there, he is stabbed in the arm with scissiors by an unknown assailant, runs away and then falls overs, knocking himself out. He wakes up on the property of a scientist experimenting with time travel and that's when the fun begins... I love time travel films, mainly because I love trying to work them out (and bashing my head against the wall while doing so...). This one has a neat little twist to begin with and from their it is never less than engrossing. It comes as no surprise that the film is already in the process of being remade in Hollywood. Also there will be more caps of Barbara in the coming weeks as I've recently discovered some of her films for the Spanish update and she's a cutie I hope we see more from.

Update for 23 November...

4 updates in 2 weeks, something must be up...

First up is How To Lose Friends and Alienate People which going by the title and the reputation of the book promises to be an acerbic satire on making it up the food chain, but turns out to be a fucking romantic comedy. Yep, while it was well cast and there are some good laughs along the way, this film totally misses the ball and becomes one of those Richard Curtis comedies (Four Weddings and A Funeral, Notting Hill etc...). Yep, the easy road is taken here and this is possibly the most disappointing film of the year. Pfft... at least Megan Fox is pretty to look at and there's an interesting surprise from Charlotte Devaney...

Eden Lake is a solid horror genre entry from Britain about a city couple who go to a lake (er, Eden Lake...) for a weekend getaway, but come across a group of teenagers who start with petty annoyances, but when the teenagers steal the couple's car and are confronted by the man, the leader's dog is accidentally killed by the man, and then all hell breaks loose. It's a fight for survival for the couple as the leader and his reluctant friends hunt them down. The film gets a bit nasty at times (the fire scene particularly), and the ending is... foetal position in the corner stuff, but for the most part the film is effective, and I also like Kelly Reilly and what happens to her during the film scares me a little...

Finally is Ten Inch Hero, one of those sitcom like comedies that usually called 'quirky', that is about a group of people who work at a cafe and their relations of the heart. The film is affable enough and good little time waster, and with some pretty girls like Elisabeth and Danneel, who has two totally fine nude scenes, there's something for everyone. Yay!

Should have another update or two by the end of the month, so plenty to come back for. Hopefully...

Update for 20 November...

Just a small update for today, from three recently released Australian films.

All three films are fairly small, Ten Empty, an OK yet depressing drama about a prodigal son returning home to his fractured family in Adelaide (no Adelaide jokes thank you...). Unfinished Sky is a remake of the excellent Dutch film The Polish Bride with Monic reprising her role from the original (the only example I can think of this happening is Penelope Cruz in Abre Los Ojos/Vanilla Sky) and this is very solid retelling of the tale with very good lead performances and the caps come with a deleted scene. Monkey Puzzle is an extremely low budget Australian film about the search for a tree affectionately named 'Monkey Puzzle' because monkeys find it impossible to climb it's bizarre make-up. Basically, 5 people go looking for the tree, but along the way they lose the map, have their food eaten by animals and that's when the fun starts as they attempt to survive their own stupidity. Fairly good film and better than the similarily themed Australian cinema released Dying Breed (which has cannibals in Tasmania... no Tasmanian jokes thank you... and one of two films to be released about reputed cannibal Alexander Pearce), but both tread over similar ground to begin with. By the way, Ella took over from Bec Cartwright in Home and Away and is currently on All Saints.

Should be a weekend update, which I currently halfway through.

Update for 16 November...

Told you I'd have another update for the weekend ;)

First up, I've redone an old Rose Byrne series, including deleted scenes from the film, I also have new videos of Rose and her co-star in Wicker Park, Diane Kruger. Being a while since I've capped Rose, although that'll change when The Tender Hook comes out on DVD. She possibly shows her breast for a few frames in a bathtub as she is been dragged out of it, but as I said, it was very very quick, hard to tell whether you see anything. Still she looks good throughout The Tender Hook, a sad misfire of a film that seems to have flopped miserably at the box office...

Crazy is about rebellious guitarist Hank Garland who played with all the big names during the 50s and 60s. But, because he went against the grain, particularly in regards to music rights and playing with coloured musicians, his time at the top was brief. Ali Larter looks good in this film, and gives us a pretty good tease, but this film is about Hank and her character seems to get the short shift. Venus is a fairly good film about an elderly actor (expertly played by Peter O'Toole) who takes a shine to his friend's much younger niece (Jodie Whittaker). Their 'relationship' is a bit more than friendly, although both use each other for their own gains. But after a tragic incident, it is revealed that it was much more than the harmless flirting that it first seems. Happy-Go-Lucky is from director Mike Leigh, and this film is one of his more lighter films about the eternally optimistic Poppy (Sally Hawkins), who's infectious behaviour has different effects on the people she meets, but most particular her driving instructor, an angry, hateful man who just wants to do his job properly. There's not much plot (practically none, but that's nothing unusual for a Mike Leigh film, take Naked for example), as this is more about how Poppy handles various situations and it's a fascinating look at that.

Finally, is the low budget Australian film Five Moments of Infidelity starring a whole bunch of actors I haven't seen in years, it's almost like a where are they now style reunion at times. Basically, it's an ensemble drama about 5 sets of people who are involved in various levels of infidelity and they are all interconnected somehow. And if you've read some of my responses to films of these types, I don't really like these film very much, and this film doesn't buck that trend. I just can't take how everyone who is interconnected has the same problems... Pfft...

I'm working on some Australian films for the next update, plus a few others.

Update for 14 November...

Alright, I've been a bit slack with the updates, but it is that time of year where I do slack off a bit. But, that's about to change. Apart from this update, I'm in the process of finishing off a few other series that should be up in the coming days, so it should start to get busy again. Oh, and there's the Spanish update that I've already started and are close to finishing some series. But, I might delay it until I finish this lot of caps.

I actually enjoyed the first Sisterhood film and to be honest the second film is OK, but this one is far more girly (yeah, I know the films are pitched at teenage girls) and a bit more adult (at least one girl has sex and possibly another as it's only hinted as well as a pregnancy scare, oh dear...). Make It Happen is another in the line of dance films that are been released by the bucketload at the moment. Nothing new is touched on and you know exactly how it goes. This one positions itself with the world of burlesque, possibly influenced by the Pussycat Dolls. And if I didn't know any better, 25 years ago this film was called Flashdance. The similarities are quite startling (more so than other dance films). But Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a pretty girl and she dances well enough in high heels, although I thought the final routine that got her into dance school was not that good, but what do I know...

Finally, there's Donkey Punch, a British thriller about 3 girls who meet 4 guys and they go back to the guy's boat to have some fun. Except it goes wrong when one of the guys performs the titular sex act on a girl and kills her. Don't know what the 'donkey punch' is? Well, it's when just before a man cums, he enters a woman anally (like riding a donkey :D ) and rides her until he cums and then hits her hard to the back of the neck, stunning her (or even knocking her out) and causing her sphincter muscle to clench, causing an amazing sensation to the male. I'm was told this be a woman, which I thought was weird considering the act is pretty anti-woman. Ah well, the film is pretty good until the 'act' happens, and then it turns into a pretty standard last man (or woman) standing on a boat, which is a shame after its fine set up.

More to come in the next few days.
