Update for 25 January...
All about Mischa Barton today, with a few others thrown in for good measure.
Homecoming is about a man heading back to his hometown to retire his high school football jumper with his new girlfriend. But, his old hometown girlfriend is still very much fixated on him. When she (accidentally...) runs down his new girlfriend, she takes her back to her place to help her get better... and tie her up and slowly kill her so that she can steal back her old boyfriend. A rather predictable stalker thriller that has a rather awkward ending.
Assassination of a High School President is a film very much influenced by the film Brick (or the kids cartoon Fillmore!, for that matter), just not quite as pronounced in the gumshoe genre. Basically, terrible school newspaper writer gets a lucky break when he is asked to do a profile on the school captain. Not only may he finally get a story published, but he stumbles on the fact that the school captain stole the SAT tests. But, it looks like he was set up, so he investigates further, while the school captain's ex-girlfriend becomes very friendly with him. This film may not be as good as Brick, but that's not to say it's not a very watchable film all the same. I enjoyed it even if the ending is a bit silly.
I seem to be complaining about the ending of films recently. What's up with that?
Also, I just put up some caps of the very pretty Australian actress Viva Bianca from the new US series 300 Spartacus: Blood and Sand over at JMTV. Looks likes there's a few Aussie and New Zealand actors/actresses in the series and if they have scenes like Viva's throughout the series, they'll also be featured. So, when's Bad Bush coming on DVD (um, the bad bush remark is not a comment on Viva in the pics by the way, although it is weird looking... She is in a film called Bad Bush.).

Update for 24 January...
Ah, pretty young things...
Forget Me Not is a film that almost pulls it off, but doesn't quite as it runs out of steam. A group of teenagers who have just graduated (graduation seems to be a theme over these update, see tomorrow as well) decide to make the most of finishing high school. But after a drunken late night game of Forget Me Not (sort of like tag), the valedictorian (Carly Schroeder) finds a mysterious girl who joined in and sees her jump off a cliff. But, they don't find her. Then, the friends begin to get bumped off by this mysterious girl, but the only one that seems concerned is the valedictorian. In fact, the others don't even know that these dead people even exists. Is the valedictorian paranoid, completely right or just plain nuts? A definite couldabeen, but the film's third act does it's best to be incomprehensible. Almost...
And guess what, there's gonna be a new Wild Things. How do I know this? Cos Jillian Murray is the star of it. Hmmm... And it looks like a remake. A remake of film that was repeated twice after. As long as it's more like the 3rd one, I'm in. Man, I hated the first and second ones...

Update for 23 January...
Something from a Spanish film today, I haven't capped one of those in a while... And I sure know how to pick 'em.
Gordos is about the lives of the people in a weight loss class and their own struggle with weight and how it relates to their lives. It begins with the counsellor challenging the group to strip naked in front of everyone and he preceeds to do so. Of course, most of the group leaves in disgust, but 3 stay and another is forced to leave by her husband, but she is still interested. From then on we follow the remaining members - a crime scene investigator who with his wife don't mind being fat, an internet service engineer who wants to lose weight for when her boyfriend comes home from his job overseas, a self-loathing weight loss spokesman who's lost his way and a pious woman who's very interested in trying new things. From the director of the also very good DarkBlueAlmostBlack (which I capped here), this is a very interesting, very frank and surprising funny look at the struggle to lose weight and thankfully a lot less depressing than his previous film.
And how pretty is Leticia Herrero? She's so great in her debut film.

Update for 22 January...
A quick update today, well, quick enough.
Sorority Row is a remake of a 80s horror film (are there any 80s horror films that haven't been remade??? Rosemary's Killer, has that been done yet...?) about a group of sorority sisters who play a prank on the former boyfriend of one of them, but it gets out of hand and one is killed. They decide to cover it up, but at the graduation party, people start dying and it looks like the dead has risen and killing those involved. Except that's silly... The resultant killer is a little stupid, but this is OK remake that doesn't really aim high. And having plenty of pretty girls as the main cast is a major bonus.
I have a number of series lined up over the next few days, so watch out for them.

Update for 9 January...
Haven't done one of these big updates for a while, so it's about time I did.
Nine Miles Down is about a security officer who goes to check an isolated scientific station and finds nothing, until a women comes running out of the horizon. She wants to leave because everyone else is dead, but he wants to investigate. Big mistake. Fairly good idea, but doesn't completely hold and gets bogged down with tricky visual effects. And the ending is quite shocking which is a nice change.
Open Graves is basically Jumanji set in Spain. Except everyone dies and the winner gets one wish. Of course, the wish is ridiculously flawed, but then so is the film which gets sillier and sillier until a truly silly ending. Meh...
I really liked the Italian film Tutta la Vita Davanti (Her Whole Life Ahead of Her), it was right up my alley. The film reminded me of another Italian film from a decade before called We All Fall Down (which I've capped about 8 years ago), which I also liked. Basically a philosophy student is about to finish her degree and head out into the world, but there are no jobs for philosophy majors, so she takes a job as a babysitter for a drippy woman's daughter who in turn gets her a job as a telemarketer and it turns out she's pretty good at it. But the job is beyond horrible and extremely competitive. Funny and horrible all at the same time and sadly reminiscent of my own life, I don't think I can watch this film again...
Dread is based on a Clive Barker short story from the same book as Midnight Meat Train, but this one is more shocking. I distinctly remember the forcing of a vegetarian to eat rancid meat, and it's in this film, every bit as disgusting as I remember. Basically, a mysterious man befriends a psych major and sells him on an idea from a thesis to investigate the limits of people's fear. But, the mysterious man wants to go further and actually watch people in these fearful situations. I really liked the film, but it suffers from being extended from a short story, but only slightly.
Finally, the French film Au Secours, j'ai Trente Ans! (Last Chance Saloon) starring Italian actress Giovanna Mezzogiorno, who I quite like... I can't remember too much about the film, something about three friends, one gay man and two women, who when the gay man gets cancer, he tells one woman to find love and the other to leave her terrible husband. Something like that...

Update for 7 January...
Just a quick update today.
I talked a bit about Beautiful Kate when I saw it at the cinemas. It's a pretty good film about a prodigal son who comes back home to visit his dying father with his soon to be trophy wife, but the visit unleashes memories of his sister Kate (Sophie Lowe) and the horrifying secrets that came about in the last few months of her life. Let's just say that she's a little messed up. The film's not for everyone because of it's revealing secret, but worth a look.

A new year Redux Friday please...
I hate the new year, now I've gotta change all the dates and shit. It's 2010 already, faaaaaaarrrrrrrrk...
Let's start with some stuff from Bluray with some redone stuff from Into The Blue, a film made for Bluray, except the bare bones version I got is fucking awful. Sure, it's better than the DVD, but the transfer has bouts of pixelation. I know it's hard to encode water, but really, you should know it's hard and work to make it better. Some really nice stuff though.
I've also found the limitations of Full HD on a shitty internet connection. Took me 2 weeks to upload over 1GB of videos. Unless things changes (and that's unlikely), Bluray series are going to be few and far between, Shame...
I keep finding these lost Australian films to recap, this time Gettin' Square, a Gold Coast based crime thriller with a fairly decent cast (including next big thing Sam Worthington) and is interesting enough. Freya Stafford was pretty hot through this period, but she seems to have disappeared off the screen recently. Shame...
And there's 3 films I've redone the videos from. Lots from the tale of two girls who fall in love in My Summer of Love, some nice sexy stuff from Zhang Ziyi in 2046 and a couple of vids of Zooey Deschanel from the long forgotten all middle-of-the-road starring Eulogy.
