Yes, it has lots of nudity and sexy girls, but it has bred a whole new generation of flashy direction where you see everything, yet you see nothing. Fast editing, blurry out of focus shots, lots of panning... Keep the fucking camera still and in focus!!!!!!
So, what the hell has this rant got to do with this update? Well, one of the directors of Underbelly has directed Two Fists, One Heart in the Underbelly style.
Anyway, 'Two Fists, One Heart' is about an amateur boxer who has a tumultuous relationship with his father/coach to the extent that the boxer wants to take a back step away from boxing, much to his father's annoyance. After a bust up between the two, the boxer leaves home and the father takes on a hot-headed boxer and trains him and gives the hot-headed boxer his boy's old room. But, the hot-headed boxer leaves the father when he gets a better offer, leaving a hole that can only be filled by the son beating the hot-headed boxer. It's a pretty good coming of age film with some pretty good boxing scenes, worth a look especially if you are into boxing.
Jessica Marais, the next big thing in Australia, also has a role as the boxer's girlfriend. And here's where the Underbelly connection kicks in. The sex scenes are all over the place, filmed in the Underbelly style, so much so that when I saw the film on the big screen, I was only half sure there was nudity from Jessica. Well, I can confirm there are brief 'bursts' of nudity from Jessica. Cool!

Haven't had time to do much, so here's a brief update.
The Informers is an adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis novel about of group of people in LA who do stuff. That's about it because not much happens at all. Most, if not all the characters are selfish arseholes living in a blizzard of meaningless sex and drugs in the age of AIDS and no one seems to care. Um, um... I got nothing really...
Amber Heard gets naked (or close to it) pretty much her entire screentime, so who cares about the rest of the film.

Back to normal transmission (for now)
Just a whole bunch of new stuff today and also a series I decided to redo.
Lie To Me (a most unoriginal title) is about a couple in a open relationship who hit a roadblock when she falls for her old college boyfriend, who is sickened by her other relationship. At the same time, the man decides to go after a 18 year old girl he's known because she's the sister of his agent/best friend. And boy does it get complicated fast. Plenty of sexual behaviour, but no real nudity and the film doesn't really offer anything new about open relationships apart from they're complicated and usually end badly. And pretty newcomer Shoshana Bush from Dance Flick (a film that will no doubt appear here) is in it.
The Boat That Rocked is a typical Richard Curtis film so you know exactly what to expect, except thankfully there's very little of the lovey-dovey stuff. Basically, the year is 1966 and pirate radio is booming in the UK because the BBC only allows 45 minutes of rock and or roll music a week and kids of the day want it all the time. The film focuses on the fictional Radio Rock, the most popular of the pirate stations and the shenanigans that go on the boat. And on the effort to shut down the pirate stations by the stiff establishment. This film is one of Richard Curtis' weakest efforts. It enjoyable enough, but it's a film that also feels very stale. Most of the jokes are telegraphed a mile out. One of the establishment's characters name is Twatt which is a fairly weak joke and is laboured throughout the film. In the (numerous) deleted scenes, a fellow worker is called Clitt. Yeah, that's the level here. The film is also astonishingly long (almost 2 and a quarter hours) and for a film where nothing much happens it just feels really long. There's also 35 minutes of deleted scenes on the disk including a whole new direction of the film, suggesting there was a last minute change of direction in the film and that they had little idea of where the film was going. A watchable mess, a rarity for a Richard Curtis film though.
Gone is an Australian film with no lead Australian actors in it. With a similar plot to the later and much more brutal Wolf Creek, Gone kind of got lost in the greater scheme of things, in fact it took me 3 years before I decided to watch it. Basically, a British tourist is meeting his girlfriend for a backpacking holiday in Australia and meets an American man who the couple quickly befriend. Before long they are heading out to the desolate Australian outback and the American tourist begins to get into the psyche of his two fellow travellers with devasting results. With stark similarities to the real life Peter Falconio disappearance, this film is an underrated little film that is just as effective as Wolf Creek in creating a quietly menacing atmosphere. And I'm never going to the outback. Ever...
Máncora is a Peruvian film about a young man at a crossroad in his life when his famous pop star father commits suicide. A very good friend Ximena (almost like his sister), comforts him and with her husband they decide to go to Máncora (a beach resort in Peru I assume) and forget all their troubles, but of course only more problems begin to occur. The man sleeps with Ximena and it sets off a chain reaction of events. But, really not much happens and the ending feels a bit contrived, but it's an OK look at complex human emotions.
I redid some caps and videos from The Principles of Lust, a pretty hardcore British film about a man who must decide to either live with his beautiful and steady new girlfriend (Sienna Guillory) and her son or live life on the very edge with his friend and his full-on girlfriend. The film has some very full on scenes including a real life orgy, some pretty explicit nudity (both male and female) and one scene where two pre-teen kids beat the shit out each other for sport and one bites a chunk out of the cheek of the other. The quality of the picture in this film is pretty low and an ever shaking camera doesn't help the capping, but it's alright I suppose. And I like Sienna and I hadn't capped anything from her in a while.

Sometimes they come back (for more)
The horror update has been the biggest success for the year, so I decided to go to the cesspit to see if there were more horror films I could mine for caps.
First up is the Australian remake Long Weekend, about a couple who head to a beach to be with friends. When they get there, they treat the environment with contempt, but this ain't no ordinary environment, this one fights back against the couple. The late 70s original is fairly quaint and dated now, but it had a superb idea that was ahead of it's time. This film starring American actor Jim Caviezel and Australian actress Claudia Karvan updates the idea of the environment fighting back and does a fairly good job with it. And even though it's a remake, it's good to see a genre film actually come out of Australia instead of the sun-soaked or moody dramas that always populate it.
Shuttle is another horror film that has an interesting idea, but is betrayed by a terribly unlikely ending. Two girls are coming back from a cheap and nasty holiday, but are stuck at the airport and can't get home until an empty shuttle pulls up. They are joined by two boys wanting to get into their pants and another nervy looking man. But, things are not as they seem starting with the shuttle going a weird way home and the strong boy getting his hand mangled while changing the tyre. It turns out that the driver wants the girls for some nefarious reason. Good little film, but could have been so much better except for the sloppy ending. Shame.
Boogeyman 3 follows the rule of horror sequels that each sequel will bring diminishing returns in quality and well the Boogeyman series is already pretty poor to begin with. The third film continues by it's stupid, ever-changing rules and I just got bored and wished there was more nudity, particularly something from Erin Cahill or Kate Maberly. Geez, I hope it doesn't get a fourth. Yuck...
I've got a couple more horror films hanging around, but I might not get around to them, I think it's time to move on. Or go for a Freddy vs Jason, destroy the entire series update. Or a reboot... (heaven forbid)

The horror is back (and they're not happy)
Oh, and I case you haven't noticed, I have entered the 21st century and have a Twitter account. Hopefully, I have some brief messages regularly. You can follow me if you want, talk to me etc. whatever you want to do.
As with all horror franchises, they'll all come back more (and they'll be progressively worse...)
The Last House on the Left is a remake of well, a remake of sorts. Basically, a husband and wife and their daughter go for a summer holiday to their country house. The daughter goes with a friend to a glum looking boy's hotel room for a quick spliff, but are interrupted by the boy's father and friends who are on the run for killing some cops and decide to get rid of the two girls. After doing so, they are stuck in the middle of a storm and seek refuge in the country house, but unknowing to them, the daughter has survived and she makes it back to the house. That's when the parents decide payback against the guests. Well, that's pretty much the entire film there. The film is brutal, like the original although the rawness of the original Last House (although it's pretty dated now) still makes that film more brutal. Both version are quite ugly and are hard to recommend, but if you like it ugly, I suppose you'll be into this.
Here's where I warn you that some of the stuff below from the film is pretty ugly.
Solstice is about a group of teenagers who go away to a country house (um, is this how all horror films start. If so, I highly recommend staying in the city, it's safer...) and a girl whose twin sister died recently seems to be haunted by her, trying to warn her off something. Fucking spirits... Film is fairly standard and really how is the very pretty Elisabeth Harnois not in bigger films considering some of the skanks that currently are. Glad Amanda Seyfried is getting better work though.
Pulse 2 picks up a little after the terrible first film, with the electronic world taking over from the human world. A man is desperately trying to get his daughter to safety away from electronic influence, but all he seems to be doing is bring it with him. But, it's hard to discern between who is the carrier and who is human. Basically that's it, plus some gratuitous nudity from Boti Bliss. Slightly better than the original, but the whole Pulse series is a complete mess. The original Japanese film was always going to be hard to adapt for Western audiences. Meh...
I don't know if there will be more from horror. We'll see what happens in the coming days.

A quick diversion...
Just quickly getting away from the horror update, but it'll be back tomorrow or the next day.
I've already said what I think of the Australian film Beautiful in a blog post when I saw it at the cinemas and having watched it again yesterday, my view hasn't really changed. You can read it here.
But, it's all about the red swimsuit, right?
