Australian Update 2007 part 5 (with additional stuff)

28/01/2007 - Melissa George videos from Turistas now available. 5 of them!

Well, it's not quite an Australian only update with some others thrown in, including Beau Garrett and Olivia Wilde in Turistas, which I talked about last week. Also, Emily Barclay is from New Zealand, even if Suburban Mayhem is an Australian film. And I'm not too sure about Zoe Naylor. Is she from New Zealand also?

First up is Suburban Mayhem, and man what an opportunity lost this film is. Sparked by an amazing whirlwind of a performance by Emily Barclay, it could've been great and it starts promising enough. But when the focus of the film is on the bumping off of her father, the film stalls and seems to go nowhere, to the point that the reasoning behind the murder and even who did it seems ridiculous. Arrgh... 2006 seems to be the year of disappointing films like Marie Antoinette, Babel (and it'll win the Oscar too...), The Da Vinci Code, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 (finally saw it, BORING). And they're just the ones that aren't bad, just misfires.

Chalk up another one for disappointing with The Book of Revelation. This film is incredibly frustrating, a film that attempts to look at a male rape victim and how it effects him. But, this film goes into Eyes Wide Shut territory and just feels convoluted. Apparently in high brow art films, sex and rape is very arty, thereby making it more complex. Basically, the victim turns into a predator, going from conquest to conquest trying to find who kidnapped him. Then he meets Deborah Mailman and the film turns into The Secret Life of Us, complete with football match and because Deborah is always nice (she'll never play a bad girl), he is turned around... And of course, there is that scene where the victim is forced to masturbate, and is helped along by one of his captors, all apparently real. I cut out the more explicit male masturbation in the Zoe Naylor video (I know you'll thank me for it, but it doesn't bother me...)

Puppy is an oddball film about a woman (Nadia Townsend) who is about to commit suicide, but is saved by a man, only to wake up and find herself chained to his bed and with the man claiming that she is his wife. The woman tries to escape, but cannot, and over a period of time she develops a relationship with him, even though he is a complete oddball. Interesting film that is getting a cinema release here in the coming months (so how did I get a copy...?) that has it's moment, but I was attracted to it because of Nadia Townsend, who I found interesting in Headland (see January 14 update), and she's great here and hopefully she'll get some roles in bigger films in the future. Plus, I love that scene where she leans over to kiss the man and her top falls just enough to reveal she is wearing no bra. Mmm...

Finally, I found Let Me Not after the cricket a couple of Fridays back with the plot of a school girl stripper who fall in love with an older man. And of course you can tell what kind of stripper she is, the one that keeps her clothes on. Alright, she's 16 and shouldn't be doing it, but I think it's about time the definition of stripping should be adhered to, thank you Jessica Alba... This film is low budget and it shows at times (like most do), but this romance story actually has it's moments and isn't that bad. Sadly, I lost about 25 minutes thanks to the dodginess of capturing HD, so a couple of scenes I would've included in the collages aren't included, including one scene at the strip club. Fucking 1080i...

Australian Update 2007 part 4

21/01/2007 - Melissa George videos from Turistas coming soon

I'm finding it hard to do a lot of work at the moment, but I'll eventually get around to everything I've planned for. And the list keeps getting longer and longer by the week. I've got a copy of Suburban Mayhem the other day and that'll be in the next update. And Book of Revelations is coming this week hopefully. I told you there was plenty around.

First up, Abbie Cornish in her first international role in A Good Year. Abbie plays the illegitimate daughter of a vineyard owner who comes to the vineyard to find out how her father lived. A Good Year is actually not a bad film, sure, it seems a bit weird seeing Russell Crowe playing slight comedy, but he isn't bad and it's also well told. I've got caps of Marion Cotillard as well, but they'll come after the Australian update in a few weeks.

Next up is the first part of the Turistas update, this part featuring Melissa George, who actually plays an Australian tourist, not an American (about bloody time an American production actually has an Aussie play an Aussie). There's not much to recommend about Turistas, it's supposed to be a horror thriller/cautionary tale, but nothing happens for pretty much all of the film. Also, in the next update I'll feature Beau Garrett (with nude scenes) and Olivia Wilde, even though they aren't Australia.

Teresa Palmer could very well be the next big thing with the upcoming December Boys, but here I'm featuring her in her first role in the very good, if occasionally very ugly, 2:37 and her first international role in The Grudge 2. Definitely worth looking out for in the future, particularly in another upcoming film Ravenwood, which supposedly has her in some nude scenes, and the trailer featured here suggests there could be. And she looks great in that dress... Also look at the middle row of the 2:37 collage. I'm feeling like a very bad man after this row...

Finally, I didn't think I'd ever see Brooke Anderson again, and sure I never watched E Street, to which she was a child star and very popular. Well, she's all grown up in Sum of Existence, a film where she plays a rape victim trying to get on with her life, all the while been shadowed by her rapist. Sadly, this film is all over the place, it looks like it could have been something pretty good, but stuff seems to have been butchered out of it and the villain is as dodgy as it gets. A shame really.

Australian Update 2007 part 3

So here is the second part of the Headland series yet I still haven't finished like I promised. I still haven't gotten around to doing the caps of Yvonne Strzechowski. I know that you're looking forward to them (don't roll your eyes at me)... I just haven't been bothered to do much at the moment, even though I did about as much as I usually do during the week.

Some pretty nice women here. And I've got a little bit more from some of the women featured here. I have picked up a film called Puppy starring Nadia Townsend, which is an interesting little oddity. She also has a few brief nude scenes in it (see coming soon section for brief preview), so look out the caps in the next week or two. Also, on Friday night after the cricket, there was an Australian film called Let Me Not that is so obscure, that not only is it not at the IMDB, there is no information about the film on the web at all. Even the website mentioned in the credits doesn't exist any more. Anyway, it features a small role from Sophie Katinis as a bitchy school girl. Not much from her, but hey, at least there's something. I also ran into some problems with the capping of the film, but more about that when I release caps soon.

I thought I would have enough for one month worth of Australian updates, but two things have occurred. Firstly, I'm not really in the mood at the moment to do big updates of caps. Got too many things on the boil at the moment. And secondly, I keep finding movies with Australian actress in them. And throughout the next few weeks there are a few Australian films coming to DVD which will definitely feature on the site. Also, Channel 9 (a network I've been lambast on the site recently) have shown a number of Australian films on Saturday night (like they have the past couple of years over the summer), most of which I've already capped, but I'm definitely looking out for more. Check out the coming soon to see what I've found and will release in the coming weeks.

Australian Update 2007 part 2

Seems like forever since I have released a series after the December rush, but I was in really no rush to release anything and I'm taking this next series real slow. Well, slow for me anyway...

A lot of money was put into the series, Headland, and somebody must have pissed it up against the wall somewhere. I don't usually watch soaps, but with the promise of hot women and only 52 episodes, I thought, hey, there may be something here for me to cap. Well, there was plenty to cap, but man, this show took so long for anything to happen, you have to wonder what the writers were expecting to do with the series. The network kept saying that the show gets better, keep watching... and nothing still happened. Then, the only big twist to occur happened 30 episodes in and it was actually a pretty decent one, but by then, no one was watching, so a couple of episodes later, the show was dumped, never to be seen on free to air TV again. In fact, it was about a year ago today when it happened (according to all the caps I made of the show).

A cue to writers of a TV soap. More twists, more often. The biggest sin a soap can have is being boring. And Headland was boring...

Rachael Taylor seems to be the breakout star from the show, although, I seriously doubt it was because of the show. Her character is the requisite bitch and she played it well, and she was always in very little clothing which is never a bad thing. And as you'll see, there's plenty of caps of her from the show, 15 in fact. Be interesting to see how she goes in the Transformers movie. And Libby Tanner was to be the star of the show, but seemed to be in the background a fair bit, plus her role as a guidance counsellor isn't the most exciting going about.

No videos from Headland, I can't seem to find my original videos (I did do them a year ago). And there is plenty more to come from Headland, including some pretty hot TV soap strip club scenes (check out the coming soon for who's to come). I've also capped a few movies in the past week, so I'll get around to then soon enough.

At the pace I'm going, this Australian update may take a while...

Australian Update 2007 part 1

Please keep being patient as the site is close to it's bandwidth limit. So, keep on enjoying if you can...

Business first: As you can see either in the address bar (unless you have IE6 and under, meaning you're in the dark ages) or next to the date of this entry, there is a RSS newsfeed sign.

If you are a regular RSS reader, I highly recommend adding my site to your list of newsfeeds. My updates are now available as I post them here at the site, like any other blog. It will look exactly the same as I posted here but the benefit is you don't have to come to my site to get the updates (except if you want the videos). You will also get the benefit receiving news of what is coming soon to the site and news of other things that I am developing.

OK, so the new year begins with what the main focus of this site is, Australian actresses. All of January will feature a number of Australian actresses from Australian and International productions and today, I will begin with an international/US production, The Dead Girl.

Well, The Dead Girl is one depressing film. It is about how a dead girl (Brittany Murphy) affects a number of people, from the person who found her dead (Toni Collette), to the sister of a missing girl (Rose Byrne) who thinks the dead girl maybe her, to a woman who finds evidence that the dead girl may be a victim of a serial killer, to the dead girl's mother and then the dead girl's story is told. Of course, the subject matter is a depressing one, but it is made all the more depressing by these people own miserable lives and circumstances. This is very good film, but I thought the ending was weakened by focusing on the dead girl because it just seemed like it was going over old ground, even the unveiling of the killer is pretty much known by the time he shows his face. But, it is still worth a look.

So, regulars to this site probably know that Rose Byrne is a personal favourite of mine and has being for a number of years. And as you know by now, I cap all my favourites as soon as I can, so here is another series with Rose, the most capped woman at the site. I'm looking forward to seeing how 28 Weeks Later and Sunshine turns out.

Oh yeah, and Mary Beth Hurt isn't Australian. I know that, OK.
